Montana and Willow

Montana and Willow are a mother and filly Thoroughbred who where rescued by our horse rescue program HAPRRI.

Valerie found them at a ranch out in the desert in September 2008. They were living at a facility that was "breeding" horses for sale. The stalls were made from parts of old shopping carts, and they were being fed pig food. Willow was born in June, and was slowly killing Montana, because the people there did not give them enough food. Also Willow had a large cut on her leg form the bad stall.

When Valerie found them, Montana wouldn't have lasted another week there. She bought Willow from them for 200$ and made them give Montana to her for free. Valerie did not have room for them at her home, so we moved them to Davis Ranch where they are getting lots of food and putting on weight nicely.

Montana has put back on alot of weight, and we are looking at riding her soon. She seems to be fully trained, and is a great mover! Willow has grown a lot and is now taller then Gayle! (OK that's not that tall I guess :) She's in that weird stage of growing, and her butt is a foot taller then her front :)

After lunging Montana Gayle made me get on and ride her for the first time! Of course I had already put the camera away, but nothing eventfull happened :) We just walked around for a alittle bit. Yay!!

Had a WHOLE walk/trot/canter lesson at Independence on Montana for our 3rd ride! Willow when crazy in the turnout...

First trail ride! Only 2 miles, but Montana was great. Willow was somewhat okay. I asked Ashley to pony her on Suki, and Willow really wanted to be next to mom. I think next time I'll do the ponying.

Well its been almost a year since we got them, and we took Montana to our first show. A combined eventing derby at Meadows in Moorpark. We did better then I expected, and placed 7th out of 13. But we still have a long way to go, even after all the hard work. She has a ton of emotional issues.
